We are excited to introduce a valuable addition to Klaviyo’s SMS feature set: Shopify SMS Order Updates. This new feature enables Shopify users on Klaviyo SMS to effortlessly obtain consent and deliver transactional updates through text messages.

With Shopify SMS Order Updates now at your fingertips, brands can efficiently handle all their post-purchase communications, encompassing both email and SMS, directly within their Klaviyo account. Whether you’re new to SMS marketing or a seasoned pro, this feature is a great addition. Consumers consistently rank order update texts among their favorites, making it a must-have tool for any Shopify merchant. This feature automatically collects transactional SMS consent, enabling subscribers to receive order updates for their purchased products—a communication customers highly value. Klaviyo’s Shopify SMS Order Updates ensures timely delivery of critical information, such as order status and tracking links, directly to customers’ phones in real-time. 

This is the full list of flow triggers that you’ll have access to when enabling Shopify SMS Order Updates: 

  • Placed Order
  • Fulfilled Order
  • Partially Fulfilled Order
  • Refunded Order
  • Canceled Order
  • Confirmed Shipment
  • Delivered Shipment
  • Marked Out for Delivery

It is important to note that this feature gathers consent for transactions on a per-order basis. When subscribers check the box to receive order updates during checkout, it applies exclusively to that specific order. It cannot be utilized to send promotional texts or future transactional notifications unless subscribers opt-in again.

With this integration, you also gain the flexibility to send updates through the preferred channel chosen by your customers. This helps you strike the right balance between email and SMS communications without overwhelming subscribers with excessive notifications or post-purchase messages.

Getting started

To start using this feature, ensure that your Shopify checkout process includes the collection of customer phone numbers in the shipping address section. Enabling it is hassle-free; all Klaviyo SMS customers integrated with Shopify gain automatic access.

Here’s a step-by-step guide to setting it up in your account:

  1. Head to the “Flows” section.
  2. Choose one of the following options:
    • Create a new flow using pre-built Shopify Order Update templates available in the Flow Library.
    • Select an existing flow and transform it into a transactional flow.
  3. Within the content panel on the left, select “Transactional.”
  4. Ensure that the flow trigger is set to a “Shopify Order Update” event (refer to the list above).
  5. If you have existing SMS content, it’s required that you replace it with the provided pre-templated transactional order update content.
